# confab.sh

> A running record of near-identical app launches, sorted into the categories they cluster into and counted over time. One app does well, forty more of it appear within a fortnight, and we write the number down.

confab.sh is the original slop-wave tracker. It started as a Reddit comment keeping score of pay-to-rank leaderboard clones, and the comment outgrew Reddit. The chart plays the whole thing back with a timeline, a claw machine, and Strauss.

The name is the joke. Confabulate (v): to fabricate experiences as compensation for loss of memory. It is also the clinical term for what a language model does when it answers confidently and wrongly, which felt about right for the era being catalogued.

Nothing here is a ranking, an endorsement, or a takedown. Entries are public launch posts, grouped by what they actually are, with dates read from the source.

- Answers are aggregate on purpose. The full entry list lives on the chart and stays there. Being first with the most is the entire business model, and we intend to keep both halves.
